The latest rap on Senator Obama is that he’s an elitist. Let the FOX News and Rush Limbaugh driven GOP defining machine get cranked up into overdrive. Once a Democrat gets labeled an “elitist” these folks that worship at the emaciated feet of Ann Coulter start drooling and frothing at the mouth.
We’ve all, and I include myself and other liberals in this blanket statement, become susceptible to this crap.
In ‘04 the GOP tried everything to get John Kerry into the elitist category. First, it was reminding folks that Kerry’s initials were the same as Jack Kennedy’s. Then it was the expense watersport photo-op. Not to mention the trust fund wife. Remember, eat Hunt’s Ketchup!
NOTE: ‘08 is proving to be no different than the election years that have come before. Republicans love playing the middle name game. In ‘04 it was John F. Kerry and now it’s Coulter’s incessant reference to Barack Hussein Obama or B. Hussein Obama as Ann likes to say. Here.
In 2000, the GOP machine labeled Vice President Gore as a liar and they did this quite successfully mind you. To this day, FOX News K00L-AID drinking folks still believe that Gore actually said that he “invented” the Internet. He didn’t invent the Internet AND he never said he did. Here. In fact, he never used the word “invent”. Further, the ACTUAL guys cited as the “inventors” of the Internet have both given props to Al Gore and firmly believe that Gore’s work in the Congress was beneficial to the development of the Internet. But Flush Windbag, Sean Vanity, and spinster Ann Coulter have convinced folks that Gore claimed invention of the worldwide web. I don’t think PolitiPorn or anyone else for the matter will change these folks mind. Bill O’Rally has these same folks convince that “he’s looking out for them” and that black folks have no problem telling a waitress to get them some more M-Fing ice tea.
The past is prologue and don’t you forget it. However, the plot twist here is that it is the Clinton camp doing the defining. McCain is just taking Clinton’s lines at this point. His campaign hasn’t had to do any real work because the Clintons’s are doing it for him. You think Old John will give Hillary a nod should he beat Obama in the Fall? Speaking of old, here’s a John McCain is Old joke:
John McCain is debating Bill Richardson. During one exchange McCain turns to Richardson and says “Governor I sat next to Judas Iscariot at the Last Supper, Judas Iscariot was a friend of mine, and you sir are no Judas Iscariot!” (Thank you, I’m here all week.)
Yep, the Clintons are attempting to define Obama as “elitist.” Why you ask? Well this term will score big on two fronts. First, Republican leaning Independents voting in the Democratic primary will get the message. They bought the same cock and bull story in ‘00 and ‘04. It’s comfortable and they recognize it.
The second front on this is even more interesting. There’s a segment of the voting public that Clinton and eventually McCain is hoping will read between the lines. If you do so, you have Clinton essentially telling everyone that Obama is an Uppity Negro. Yep, that’s what she’s shooting for. And you’d think that this message was for the voters of PA, but you’d be wrong. Clinton’s got PA locked up and it’s just a matter of “how much will she win by.” Nope, Clinton is reaching out to southern white and perhaps working class southern African Americans in the North Carolina.
Funny thing is that in North Carolina’s sister state to the south, the Clintons tried to paint Obama with the black-face of the token unelectable black candidate ala Sharpton or Jackson. Now, according to the Clinton camp, Obama has morphed into Mr. Super, Ivy League Educated, Uppity Negro.
Unfortunately, this is going to stick. It may not work for Clinton and most likely will not get her the nomination, but her scorched-earth campaigning strategy will hand the White House to John McCain. In this fact I have no doubt. My hopes are with Obama in the Fall, but my wagering money will be on McCain.
Note to Obama, between now and November please do not do any of the following:
- Be photographed participating in any water-sports.
- Disclose that you just renewed you MENSA membership.
- Attend any Harvard Law School reunions or meet and greets.
- Discuss who makes your suits.
- Say that you NEVER watch TV.
Stick to that plan and we might weather this storm. Oh, say “Hi” to Pastor Wright for me.

Only the Democrats can screw up an election.
I personally am not going to vote unless a third party candidate comes through with no ties to anyone.
Obama’s biggest problem is that way he acts around Blacks and Whites. I don’t want a president to jive talk when whites are not around. His pastor killed his presidency IMO.
As for Hillary, just shut up and you could probably win.
naahhh, you have it all wrong.
It’s the guy who was a community organizer & just paid off his student loans a few years ago who’s an elitist.
not the mega-millionaires running for prez.
I didn’t realize until now it’s worse to say someone is “bitter” over the failures of the Clinton and Bush administrations than to say you’re gonna send them into an un-win-able war to get their ass shot off.
I’ve lived in Western Pennsylvania, & bitter doesn’t begin to describe it there.
& like he says, the Dems are great at messing up a sure thing.
I wouldn’t be surprised if a video of him eating a bagel surfaces.
I don’t think this is going to kill him in the general elections though. He’d have a hard time losing the black vote; because they aren’t going for the “black enough” routine anymore, thank God. I think whites will be more comfortable with the image of an elitist black man, not that I’m impressed with the insecurities of whites. I just don’t think Bernie Mac would be polling as well.
I can’t believe that Ralph and I are in the same voting block. I’ll probibly just suck it up and vote for Obama, though.
I know people were ticked at Nader for basically handing to White House to Bush. Will Hillary’s career tank if she does the same thing to Obama?
I have a sneaking suspicion that tells me, if Hillary puts up a hissy fit over not getting the nomination, she’ll be shunned by the party leadership up to and including, being taken off the creme-puff committees and no backing should she run for re-election to the Senate in 2012.
She should look to J. LIEberman for a picture of what might be. If the Dems take control of the Senate by a wider margin, Joe will get kicked to the curb for his endorsement of McCain.
