Here it is, the moment we’ve all been waiting for…Super Two-s-day part 3 (or 4, I forget). Yep, Obama and Clinton lace up the gloves for the final round in North Carolina and Indiana.
It’s fitting that the decisive moment of the primary election (like there hasn’t been 4 or 5 decisive moments thus far) would come in two states that are best known for college basketball and sports movies!
Hillary shows no signs of backing down and she’s hoping to pull out a win in Indiana. Nonetheless, she could get her ass handed to her from now to the convention and I’d have to believe she’d be in Denver arguing with a straight face that the nomination is rightfully her’s. Bill would be in the background nodding his head in agreement. She’s kind of like that stalker girlfriend/boyfriend, you’ve told them a million times that you don’t want to see them anymore BUT they keep calling and showing up on your doorstep. After casting my vote for Barack Obama today, I wouldn’t be surprised to come home and find Hillary standing over the stove with my pet bunny boiling away in a pot.
I’m just astounded that folks haven’t been reminded of the “say and/or do anything” Clinton this primary. She’s boozed it up in a bar trying in vain to look normal. She’s rode shot-gun in a commuting pickup truck with an everyday Joe. She’s insuated that the Republican nominee would be a better president than her Democratic opponent. And for the coup de grâce or maybe the lowest of the low if you will, she even subjected herself to an interview with the Falafel King Himself, Bill O’Reilly.
With the campaigning in North Carolina and Indiana coming to a close, what does she do? She throws out a stinker of an idea borrowed straight from John McCain’s camp, the Gas Tax Holiday. Mind you that this Gas Tax Holiday idea is as out of touch with reality as John McCain.
Let me explain in nutshell why this Gas Tax Holiday idea is bogus. The reason is quite simple really. If you get the chance, ask Hillary or McCain this question “Where is the mechanism to incentivize the Oil Companies to lower the price?” The gas tax is not added to the price after the sale, like a sales tax. The gas tax is built into the price that you pay at the pump. Now what do you think the altruistic, socially conscious Oil Companies are going to do if the Gas Tax Holiday goes into effect? Hmmm, lets ponder that a while.
Friends (as Johnny Mac would say), aren’t we tired of the politics that Hillary Clinton represents? You know, the say anything and do anything to get elected type of politics. I remember a candidate back in 2000 that promised us all that if elected he’d dip into our vast surplus and reward us with $600 tax rebate. Was that $600 worth the last 8 years of agony, treachery, and deceit?
I’ve heard that the potential savings the Gas Tax Holiday would generate per American is something on the order of $30. Are we willing to sell the soul of this country for $30? Does Hillary believe that we are really that cheap of a date?

Last night some guy told me he voted for Hillary because ‘Obama got an unfair advantage from Oprah’.
????????????
And that has what to do with the issues. Man, was I STUMPED.
I suppose if Obama continues to be damaged goods by his bring the world its village idiot, then Hillary can make a case to the supers…dems are looking super stupid right about now…especially Howard Dean.
N
I GET TO VOTE TODAY!
I’ve yet to ever vote in a primary in IN because we rarely matter. I MATTER TODAY!
I’m so stupidly happy. I’m such a geek.
Well, I am happy to report that I got my vote on! That’s one more vote for the next president of the United States, Barack Hussein Obama!
Yes, We Can! (I have a feeling in November we’ll be saying “Yes, We DID!)
I can certainly understand why no one would vote for Monica Lewinsky’s ex-boyfriend’s wife but pleas explain what is the lure about Senator Obama?
Now don’t just say, “Change” or “He can unite us” or any other general term. Be specific. What issue and what are his stances on that specific issue?
Anybody? Anybody? Anybody at all?
M54, glad to be of service.
While Senator Clinton’s approach to issues (like healthcare) is a forceful one- as in, simply make health care mandatory- Obama tends to take a more holistic approach, evaluate what circumstances cause problem A or B, and work to diminish not only the problem but the cause of the problems. (As in, regulate the issues that create the health care crisis, not just make health care mandatory.)
Obama also has a proven record of making both sides compromise to get legislation passed, which is something that’s needed. We need someone who crosses lines, and not just racial lines.
And, just for a number three- don’t diminish the fact that he’s a great orator. Words have INCREDIBLE power. Think of all of the Presidents who history remembers with clarity. Why does history recall them? Key speeches, timely words, specific phrases that resound in our imaginations. Obama speaks with those kinds of words, and it’s easy for people to be entranced by that and to want to have it in the White House again.
@M54 – you make a valid point and no doubt there are folks that are caught up merely in the aesthetic appeal of Obama. Some merely want to see a black president in their lifetime. Some really were moved by the Will.I.Am video. Some just hate the GOP and the Clintons so much that they would vote for Gary Coleman if he ran. What you have to ask yourself “does any of these reasons make a vote for Obama less valid?” Lest we forget that many voted for George W. Bush in 2000 & 2004 because of the two options offered by the Democrats, he seemed like the one you could sit down and have a beer with!
Me, I would like to see some healing in this country. I would like to Republicans and Democrats REALLY consider each other’s points of view and ideas and not merely dismiss them out of hand because they come from the opponent. You said that you’d like for me to discuss reasons besides CHANGE or HE CAN UNITE US. Well, M54, the real change that Obama projects is the ability to unite us. McCain certainly can’t lay claim to the mantle. As Obama said, McCain will serve out Bush’s third term and extend this administration’s failed policies to an irrepairable point.
Nope, I’m tired of the partisan crap of the last 12 or so years. At the same time, I’m not so naive to think that the Rush Limbaughs and Ann Hart Coulter’s of the world won’t try desparately to divide this country. Nonetheless, I have hope. Hope that with Obama this country can heal the wounds inflicted by the likes of MoveOn.org and FOX News. Hope that a government with policies grounded in compromise and governing from the middle will lead to solutions that benefit all Americans.
So there you go M54, I believe in Hope and I believe that while McCain & Clinton embody cynicism and failure, Barack Hussein Obama embodies a hope for a brighter future and a truly UNITED States of America.
God Bless America!
Lindsey: “(As in regulate…) More government regulation? Is that what change we realy need? Close all the fast food drive through windows at 7pm! Outlaw tobacco and alcohol! I hardly think that will work. But he sure sounds good saying it.
As for crossing the isle. Give me a break. He hasn’t even been a Senator three years yet. How many specific examples do you have of that?
7 PolitPornster: You almost got through two whole paragraphs before you showed your true colors. Just be openly honest and say right out loud. You hate President Bush.
Senator Obama can unite us you say. You mean like the his pastor of twenty years? Or his pal the confessed “I wish I would have blown up more police stations” terrorist. And these aren’t 30-40 yr old statements but recent statements.
I thank you for taking the time to respond but you clearly have not based your facts on facts. Hope is something nice to have but what of the men and women of our Armed Forces? What of the sacrifices they have already made?
Senator McCain said early on that the Bush plan in Iraq was flawed and we needed more troops. Essentially we needed to do the troop surge years ahead of when it was done. Imagine, if you will, the hundreds (if not thousands) of families that would not have their sons or daughters killed if Bush and Rumsfeld would have listened to Senator McCain when he first stated we needed more troops.
Because my family knows (personally) what it is like to get that visit and hear those words “On behalf of the United States Army we regret to inform you….” we all will be voting for Senator McCain. Simply because we believe that he is the most qualified and has DEMONSTRATED his committment to our Veterans and active duty personnel. They deserve no less than someone who will fight for them. Additionally, it is my personal beliefe that since Senator McCain has been in the throws of battle that he is less likely to lead us into battle himself unless it is absolutely necessary.
Here’s another thing that bother’s me about Senator Obama. Now it may seem petty but try to follow me to the end. Senator Obama refuses to wear the American flag lapel pen. My son-in-law (GOOGLE Sgt. Buddy James Hughie) was serving as a medic while embeded with the Afghani Army Nationals. Buddy left his position of cover (300 meters of open ground) to render aid to wounded soldiers. While rendering aid he was killed by a Taliban sniper. I am sure most people would agree that Buddy earned the right to have the American flag drapped over his coffin at his funeral. God forbid anything happen to Senator Obama because as a US Senator he too is entitled to that same right. For what? What has he done to EARN that privilage? Someone should ask Senator Obama, if (God forbid) anything hapapen to him would he want an American drapped on his coffin? If so, why?
M54- Obama was in the Illinois state senate for 8 years- plenty of time to demonstrate a voting record and show his ability to create and pass bipartisan legislation.
@M54 – first I’m sorry for your family’s loss and your son-in-law sounds like the type of hero that is so typical of the brave men and women serving in our military. While I have never experienced that type of loss, I can empathize to a degree having served proudly in our country’s military during the First Persian Gulf War.
That said, I can’t imagine why you question Sen. Obama’s love of his country. Why should he have to explain why he deserves a flag draped coffin for his service as a Senator. Would you ask the same thing of Dick Cheney, famously turned his country down 5 times when asked to serve in uniform? Do you think that Draft-Dodging Dick Cheney and Bill Clinton deserve the right to have thier coffins draped with the Stars and Bars? No sir, you show your true colors.
As for Obama associations with Pastor Wright and the former Weatherman Terrorist, this is absolutely ludacris. Are we all to judged by the company we keep or the people we meet? Well, so be it then. Let’s examine that angle.
Where was Former President George H.W. Bush on 9/11/01? Hmmm, let me think on that one…oh that’s right he was meeting with Shafig bin Laden (Osama’s older brother) at a Carlisle Group gathering. So by your logic, George H.W. Bush is somehow responsible for 9/11 and an ardent follower of bin Laden. I don’t think so, but let’s dig further.
John McCain has reveled in the support of John Hagee who is famous in his outright hatred of Catholics. In fact Hagee has accused the Catholic Church of complicity and out right support in the war crimes committed against the Jews by the Nazis. So I guess McCain must think that way too, despite his denouncement of Hagee’s anti-Catholic views. Afterall, Obama denounced Rev. Wright’s comments.
While we are on McCain, you said that McCain demonstrated some sort of commitment to the troops. Pardon the french here, but WHEN THE FUCK DID HE DO THAT? Did he do it when flip-flopped on the position of torture? OR Did he do it when he failed to support the New GI Bill? You’ll have to answer that one.
No, you just hate Obama, pure and simple. The problem is though that you have no real ISSUES to really argue. Republican were and have been WRONG on the war, they’ve been WRONG on the economy, they’ve been WRONG on education and now all that they have to present the voter with is “Well you know Obama’s paster is an American hater” and “Obama once was in the same room as suspected black radical from the 60’s that committed an act of violence when Obama was 8 years old.”
I really feel sorry for you M54, you typify the voter that Republicans feed off of. You have a knee jerk reaction to shit that doesn’t affect your life or the well being of this country. You have my sympathy for the loss of your son-in-law and for the fact that you’ve been duped by this adminstration, FOX News, Rush Limbaugh, etc. Maybe someday you’ll have the mental fortitude to pull the wool off your eyes.
Well let me try to reply.
First of all thank you for your condolances. And no I don’t think Dick Cheney or any other politician has earned the right to have an American flag drapped on their coffin. I think that PRIVILAGE should be strictly reserved for those who have served in the ARMED FORCES. Period. But I don’t get to make the laws. We all know who does.
As for Obama’s relationships with Reverand Wright and Weatherman Terrorist being ludacris… so then you are under the impression that these relationships have severed some numbers of years ago? That Michele Obama doesn’t serve on some board with WT, or that Obama does not either? It is my understanding that these are ONGOING relationships.
Let us continue the examination as you have suggested with George H. W. Bush. Ummmm, he didn’t meet with Osama he met with his brother. Am I to understand that it was a single meeting and not an ONGOING relationship. You can’t realy see that and Obama with Rev. Wright and WT being the same? So Obama wants to cross the isle, wants to talk to the terrorists but if former President Bush does anything that may be perceived as doing the sam then HE is the bad guy. Okay then.
John McCain and John Hagee, come on get real. John McCain was not a MEMBER of John Hagee’s church. As far as some of the things Hagee says about the Catholic Church… I don’t know. I was raised Catholic and excaped in my thirties. I do know it used to be a sin to eat meat on Fridays but now it’s not. No body has been able to explain to me what happened to those Friday meat eating sinners when it suddenly became a non sin in the Catholic Church’s eyes.
Continueing with McCain; I guess you did not read my post closely enough. Senator McCain is the only one who said we needed more troops in Iraq. Bush, Rumsfeld said no and the Dems wanted to cut their funding! How can you say you support the troops but not give them the “tools” they need to do their jobs.
I have a better idea. Let’s take all of the computers, cell phones and office space from the politicians until they get out of the way and let our Armed Forces do what they are trained to do. That is to kill people and break things.
Once again you chastize me for “hating Obama” because he was in a room when he was eight years old with a “suspected black radical” (boy talk about giving your guy the benefit of the doubt). Once again Obama AND his wife have an ONGOING RELATIONSHIP with these terrorists. And yes I certainly do hate terrorists and anyone who even remotely supports them.
Now what has realy ticked me off is your condescending attitude and bringing my son-in-law into it. You could have just said all the other extreme left wing stuff without mentioning the death of Buddy. But no you have to grind at every chance.
In my eyes that makes you a dispicable person.
I truely hope that you never even know anyone that has wo walk out what my family is walking through right now.
Finally, it looks like Obama will get the Dem nomination. Now we will see all the things he has kept hidden and just who Senator Obama is.
9 Lindsey… but you didn’t mention even one of those elusive accomplishments.
M54: I’ve no mind to argue with you about Obama’s eligibility- you have made your choice for who you are supporting for what are very valid reasons to you. You have a personal, familial as well as political burden you are caring. Do I want to tell you that you are wrong, misguided or misinformed? Absolutely not, no more than I would appreciate the same hostility from you.
Did Obama, in fact, pass laws and make bipartisan moves? Yes. He did, in Illinois where he passed health care reform with the support of the Democrats, Republicans andhealth care lobbies, and in the Senate where he worked with both Mrs. Clinton (who has shown herself to be a liar) and McCain (who I won’t disparage out of respect for you).
Am I going to make a detailed list? No. I don’t feel that it would ultimately change your heart, and I don’t have the time to go and research things to make sure I have my facts straight. If you wanted to google “Obama legislation passed” and then “senate” or “illinois state senate” be assured you’d find plenty of articles on the fact.
Lindsey, thank you so much for your (obvious) restraint and deliberate kindness. Rare qualities to find in people today especially in a venue such as this.
You are correct in that I have made my mind up. My reason is personal. I (ultimately) believe that my family has the propensity to recover from anything…except death. That’s pretty final.
I have only recently realized that I have allowed the seed of bitterness to take root in me. But this too shall be rooted up out of me.
I hope you are fawned over this Mothers’ Day (as you should be).
