In a blatant attempt to get some BUZZ going and perhaps steal the spotlight for a second, John McCain is having a “Potential Vice President” slumber party at his ranch/compound in Arizona this weekend. Here. Johnnie Mac has assembled quite a list of sleep-over buddies, which includes, former rival Mitt Romney, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, Senators Lindsey Graham and Trader Joe Lieberman. Of course all will have there respective spouses in tow and this is shaping up to be the hoe down to end all hoe downs.
So how is McNo-Shame going to mcpick his McNumber Two? Lets see….
Perhaps a little high level truth or dare. Oh, yeah this a slumber party favorite and who knows the participant that most impresses Johnnie Boy might just be the next VP. From what we know of the potential candidate and the slumber party invitees we can guess at the strategies to be employed here. Trader Joe will consistently pick “dare” as the truth tends to escape him. As for the others, well lets just Mitt ”I’ll do anything to stay relevant” Romney will be telling the truth and taking on any dare.
Another pajama party favorite and potential trial to test the grit of possible vice presidential nominees would be Spin the Bottle. Yeah boy! I can see Bobby Jindal spinning the bottle and having it land on good ole’ Lindsey. I’m certain that Senator Graham is going to want that kiss with a healthy side tongue, so brush those choppers Bobby!
Who knows, if Rudy Giuliani would have been a bit more conservative, he would have been invited. With Rudy there, the dress-up portion of the evening would have been spectacular.
Yep, they’ll all be staying up way past there typical bedtimes and maybe, just maybe if their extra good Mrs. McCain will whip up some cookies from one those world famous recipes of hers.

HA! You had to stick in a jab about Mrs. McCain’s recipes, didn’t you? (Or were you unaware of the tussle over the fact that she ganked her “family recipes” from the Food Network’s website?)
Actually, I did know about the Mrs. McCain recipe debacle. What a riot! The really funny part is that the recipes weren’t just rip-offs, they were actually copied and pasted word for word! Then if that wasn’t enough, they were touted as “McCain” family recipes passed down for years and shared at special events!
Yeah, Ms. McCain should have had their illegal alien cook at the compound pony up that tamale recipe! That’ll learn her.
Why is it that rarely do I see mention of Senator & Mrs. McCain’s selflis act of adopting a child (of color no less)? I wonder if that has colored Senator McCain’s views on the boarder?
Seriously, if it weren’t for my firm belief that Senator McCain will do the best job with the War on Terror there isn’t much difference.
Heck even Senator Obama is (VERBALLY) moving closer to Senator McCain on Iraq. Politicians.
Really, the war on terror…
C’mon, M54, you’re not going with that bumper-sticker mentality, are you?
How are we safer by NOT talking to our enemies?
Please disregard link in previous comment.
First of all you should realy know who you challenge regarding “bumper-sticker mentality”.
I have to calm down first……..
Okay, I’ve calmed a bit.
I can (rightly) judge from your post that you would not even consider my mental state and more importantly why I am that way. In fact you would more than likely make fun of me.
So let me just point my (correct) observation.
You post under the smyble of “Peace” but write in terms that are not peaceable and are in fact challenging.
You seem to be like the abortion right activists who shout that killing an unborn child is murder. All along you are hiding waiting for those who work at the clinic to get to work so you can cause them harm or even kill them.
Enjoy your Memorial Day with your family. My family made it available for you and yours.
I apologize if I upset you, that wasn’t my intent.
The “bumper-sticker mentality” line is quite common, it was in no way meant to disparage you in any way.
All I was trying to get across was that I agree with Barack that we need to talk to our enemies.
Hiding behind fear-mongering catch-phrases like ‘the war on terror” adds nothing to the logic of the argument.
Again, my apologies.
Perhaps you are correct. Perhaps talking to Iran who has sworn to wipe Israel of the face of the Earth would be a good thing. Perhaps talking to Iran who says that the Holacost never happened would be a good thing. Perhaps talking to Iran who said they would stop supplying explosives to the terrorists in Iraq would be a good thing. Perhaps Iran is just kidding about all that and we just need to talk to them.
Yeh, you could be right.
I know if I were the Iraanian president and I could vote in the US election I too would vote for Obama. Iranians can never have to many friends high in the US government.
You make a great point. Iran’s best friend ever was Ronald Reagan. Remember?
Not talking to your enemies is essentially the same as ignoring your problems in the hopes that they’ll go away. How long have we employed this strategy vis a vis Cuba? Has it worked? I don’t think so and it hasn’t worked with regard to Iran either.
Reagan’s engagement of the USSR proved that through high level diplomatic relations you can eventually take down an enemy.
Imagine for instance if we would have engaged Cuba all this time. Would Cuba look more like the Cuba we know today or would it be a little more like China? China puts up this hardcore communist exterior but deep down they are more capitalistic the many of our European allies.
Ignoring the problem won’t solve it. By not talking, you leave two options on the table, further ignorance or war. I’d rather have another option. Wouldn’t you?
Certainly another option would be ideal.
However, something bothers me when Iran says they will stop suplying arms to insurtents and then actively participate in the killing of our family members.
How can you talk to anyone who says one thing and then does another? It would be a different thing is actions matched words.
Just my take.
@M54 – no doubt the issue you raise is valid. However, you as Vietnam Vet know that the Viet Cong was being supplied by the USSR and China during much of the war but that didn’t stop Nixon from talking to either of them. Taking the “Devil’s advocate” side on this, one could say that the USSR/China had a vested interest in seeing the US do poorly in Vietnam. In fact, it secured their interests in the region.
Whether it’s right or wrong, the Iranians do have a vested interest in what happens in Iraq. Let me say here that I don’t support that Iranian position and I don’t support their relationship with the Iraqi insurgents. Nonetheless, I can see why they’d do it. From their point of view, it makes sense.
I bring it up because I don’t think that should stop us from engaging the Iranians in diplomatic efforts. Actually, our failure to join the Iranians at the table of diplomacy makes us look a bit hypocritical on the world stage.
Take for instance China, who is an accomplice to the genocide in Darfur. Despite this, the Chinese remain one of our biggest trading partners. The Congress has not revoked their status as a Favored Nation. We’re also send a delegation of athletes to participate in their Olympics. Shouldn’t we as the World’s supposed Lone Super Power take a stand in this situation?
I find it very curious that we won’t talk to one country because they make an empty hyperbolic threat of committing genocide, but we walk hand-in-hand with another country that is facilitating an on-going genocide.
Now I know that these two situations are not completely analogous but it does give an example of the two-faced nature of our diplomatic policies and particularly the inconsistent nature in which this administration deals with countries.
M54 — First off thank you for the opposing views, this country won’t get very far without them.
I have to disagree about isolating Iran. They have a hick president that has a very loose grasp of reality. Everyone talks about preconditions… if they give up nuke aspirations, make nice with Israel and stop training and arming insurgents we won’t have a whole lot to talk about.
They have some legitimate beefs, I won’t go into them here but a future post might be fun. And Amadediejjsaud (whatever) is unpopular.
When we leave Iraq… you know, after our 100 years of utopian co-existance, they will form a Shi’a bloc. Iran is more essential to the stabilization of Iraq than we are, but right now, when it comes to destablizing Iraq we are about neck and neck.
Just my opinion, I am more often wrong than most people on this blog.
Politi’: it is not at all fair to bring China into the picture. After all where would the American consumor buy all of their lead based painted inexpensive toys, poisoned pet food, etc. and let’s not forget the Olympics are going to be there! Hands off China!
David…. I mean Duke: of course Iran has a lot at stake in Iraq. Look at all of the real estate there and my goodness the oil! But it’s probably about religion.
Let us not all forget how this Iraq thing began. Remember? Iraq invaded Kuwait, taking babies out in incubators, rapeing their women (kinda like Sudam’s sons were doing to the local Iraqi women) etc. Then after that there were the unenforced UN Resolutions until finally ALL the intel suggested that Sadam had WMDs. It all began when Sadam invaded Kuwait. Didn’t it?
If this were a religion blog one may be able to make the point that it began in Babalon!
David I mean Duke… oh wait I get it, I get jokes. Some of your comment was too… cunning to be understood, but if you were making a reference to David Duke you should be ashamed of yourself.
It is about religion between Iran and Iraq. Crack a book.
And you couldn’t possibly think that all of the intel suggested that Iraq had WMDs. Unless by ‘all’ no wait… “ALL” you mean the information given to German Intellegence by Rafid Ahmed Alwan, a low level chemist who was trying to get a green card.
And yes Saddam was a terrible person, but he wasn’t a threat. If we want to go after every terrible leader thats fine lets just not throw our country down the shitter doing it.
That’s just too funny! “Crack a book.” You mean like “I was dodging sniper fire.” “I had to sit on my flack jacket.” book?
Low level people have never, ever been known to have any reliable intel.
Okay, then I certainly have been corrected. Thanks!
So from now on I will only get my information from high level operatives that have written books… unless it says something about sniper fire. Then I will disregard that. No, wait, she was pretty high level. Man….
Sigh.
No, dumbass, I mean like the Shi’a Revival by Vali Nasr if you want to learn more about sectarian politics in the Middle East or Curveball by Bob Drogin if you want to know more about low level iraq informants or the Goat book if your country has just been attacked by terrorists and no one knows if the country is at war.
And you’re welcome, you have been corrected. Maybe if reading wasn’t such a knee slapper you would be able to come up with a better argument.
Duke (ironic isn’t it “Duke Blue Devils”): any way, I sense you have some unresolved anger issues.
I certainly do appreciate your suggestions of reading material. Heck, I may even pick one of them up. Which one has the most pictures in it?
Also, I can appreciate your “no one knows if the country is at war.” statement when my son-in-law was KIA on February 19th, 2007 it sure felt (and still does) feel like war to us (especially my then 23yr old daughter and their then 3 month old son). I would tell you his name but I know he doesn’t matter to you. Just that you are superior in your point of view. That has certainly worked out well over the ages for all of us. Good for you.
So you see Duke, while sitting down for some quiet time with a book may seem valuable to some my values and time are else where for now. After all you and I won’t really matter that much in the end.
You really may want to consider talking to some one about your anger issues and maybe making your point without “Introductory to Sailor Talk 101″.
Finally, a sense of humor is all I have some days to get me through. You may want to consider one.
M54,
Sorry for calling you a dumbass. I started our exchange by saying the this country won’t get very far without opposing views and ended it with “I could be wrong.” Did I misunderstand you or did you respond by calling me a nazi?
And now I don’t care about your dead son in law because I called you a dumbass? I am sorry for your loss, and the hell that your daughter and grandchild are going through. Thats not lip service, please read this posting that I did last month.
And you misunderstood the comment about not knowing if our country was at war. I was referring to President Bush reading the goat book to the school kids after finding out that the first airplane had struck the towers in 2001 and no one knew if we were under attack or if another pilot had hit the flask. I wasn’t questioning whether or not we are at war now.
Your son in law is a hero, if you knew what I do for a living you would realize that your beef isnt with me.
At least it is not going to be Charlie Crist from Florida! Recent internet Bloging is pointing that the Democrats may force him out of the closet! I dont believe this guy has goten as far as he has Hiding This? He is getting Married now to try and hide it! But lets NOT FORGET Mark Foley? IS Mark Foley his Lover? They used to spend so much time together how could they not be??? No one has denied it YET??? More Needs to be found out on this before the convention!!!
