Yesterday, The Drudge Report, via the NY Times, reported that Rush Limbaugh has inked a record breaking radio deal that will keep him on the radion through the year 2016 and will reportedly pay him $400 Million over the course of the contract. It’s somewhat surprising that Rush would get that much dough for his show. I won’t argue the fact that he’s the most listened to personality on radio, rakes in tons of sponsor bucks, and has legions of loyal fans, er, Dittoheads. That said, I’ve always thought that Rush loved what he does so much that he’d, quite frankly, be willing to do it for free. Alas, Capitalism is the cornerstone of our democracy and God bless ole Rush. Work it Girl!
Attention Broadcasters: Just putting this out there, but bloggin doesn’t pay crap! I want my own radio show dammit! Here’s what I think are my qualifications: My short yet succesful career as a stand-up comic, a passable knowledge of the law & politics, I’ve been told that I have a 3 pack a day voice and my wife tells me that I have a face made for radio. Please feel free to contact me at politiporn@yahoo.com . All offers will be considered.
Update: As a result of Limbaugh’s new found wealth the makers of Oxycontin and Cialis have ramped up production to meet the predicted demand.

“and my wife tells me that I have a face made for radio”
LMAO!!! I’d listen.
Politipornster, you would have to have a conservative radio show to rake in the kind of dough my idol Rush Limbaugh makes! Name a comparative succesful liberal radio show…there aren’t any!!
I don’t know about that. Most people, particularly conservatives tend to forget just how liberal, at least in social values, Howard Stern is. Although, Howie doesn’t really talk politics that much, I’d say that he’s likely and to my chagrin, a liberal.
Him aside, you’re correct that conservatives rule the AM airways. Nonetheless, liberals can still take solace in the fact that we own NPR!
I actually looking forward to the NY Times piece on Rush. Apparently, he said some pretty unflattering things about Sean Hannity and my obsession, Bill O’Reilly! From what I heard, he said these things “off the record” and then changed his mind and allowed the reporter to quote him. Should be entertaining.
Happy 4th!
Gotta love people like Rush don’t ya? I mean, really he’s made a career out of having a very quick mind and knowing how to baffle us all with his bullshit making it sound like fact. Ever check any of the crap he rolls off the tip of that well paid tongue? No one ever does.
It is just another reason that Americans are ignorant of the true state of the world. Because people like Rush Limbaugh spoon feed you their bullshit and call it the truth. People confuse opinion with truth. Sad.
Gotta love the Oxycontin and Cialis digs - now those were both deserved and funny!
Notes on Logic and Punctuation
The Fallen states that to make Limbaugh money Politipornster would have to do a “conservative” show. This is a fundamental mistake in logic that is made time and again.
Rush is not successful because he is “conservative.” He is successful because he is a solid entertainer. I once enjoyed listening to his show before he began to believe his own hype and, to me, became insufferable. It is not correct to attribute the lack of a “liberal” counterpart to El Rushbo to some notion that a “liberal” show will not work.
If all one needed to be successful in radio was a conservative message then Matt Drudge would still be on the air. As it happens Drudge was terrible at radio and he produced what may have been the worst radio show I have ever had the misfortune of experiencing. (Though in my market his replacement, Bill “Hussein” Cunningham is giving him a run for his money.)
In radio and in television, the messenger is far more important than the message. As it is structured today the “conservative” talk biz centers around Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. Aside from their combined six hours of broadcast each day the rest is just filler in which the station maintains a “conservative” message for consistency purposes. Listeners might get confused or change stations otherwise.
Note on Punctuation:
Please stop using exclamation points to say, “I really mean it!” This noble piece of punctuation is for exclamations and interjections, or as the Ponch to the Jon that it the question mark in the interrobang (!?).

Ummm, who’s money is used to keep that afloat?
I really can’t stand to listen to Hanity. Too much hatred… about everything.
Amber makes some very good points, without actually making any specific points. Just as she alledges Rush does. Pot, kettle!
