As if Dick Cheney could do anything else to make himself look bad, well he’s done it again. Sometimes I think that Dick Cheney is sort of like a convict in prison serving a term of life without parole. What does he got to lose? If he kills somebody while in prison, what is the warden going to do; bump his sentence up to “Never-Ever?”
Cheney’s latest crime against decency comes at the expense of Disable American Veterans. Yep, the man who refused his country’s call to service on 5 separate occasions has dissed the men who answered that call and paid dearly for it. I imagine Cheney must look at these men and say to himself “there but for the grace of Daddy and draft deferments, go I.”
Cheney was invited to speak before the Disable American Veterans group in Las Vegas, but the group has had to pull his invitation because of what they called “draconian” security measures that the VP’s staff insisted upon. The main bone of contention was that the VP’s security detail and staff insisted that the disabled vets be sequestered in the meeting hall for 2 hours prior to Mr. Cheney’s arrival and they would not be allowed to exit the hall until Mr. Cheney finished his speech and departed. Oh, the hook, all of the bathrooms at the hall were outside of the security perimeter. So the vets, many of them older gentlemen mind you, would have had to hold it until Dick was done.
Draft-Dodging Dick Cheney essentially was asking the Vets to “defer” their bodily functions. Should we count this as Dick’s 6th deferment request?
Dick Cheney is the epitome of the lip service politician. You know that type, he goes around talking about how he “loves” the troops and what great patriots they are and on & on. However, you know deep inside he thinks that he’s better than them, that somehow he is more important or perhaps too good to put on the uniform. He sees life as a game of chess, and those of us that put on the uniform are merely pawns that are there to be sacrificed for his whims.
There’s got to be a special place in Hell for people like Dick Cheney. You know that place when you get there. There’s a sign that reads, “Welcome to the Dick Cheney 8th Ring of Hell.” From what I hear, there are no bathrooms.
Here’s the Story: Link

“the VP’s security detail and staff insisted that the disabled vets be sequestered in the meeting hall for 2 hours prior to Mr. Cheney’s arrival ”
WHY? There are other ways to accomplish securing an event. I can’t help but wonder if it would be different if he were campaigning. (Has he ever been elected to an office, or does he just get appointed?)
Actually Cheney was an elected Congressman from Wyoming and was reelected to 5 terms.
It seems to me that any Vice President of the United States of America should look for ways to make such an appearance happen.
How sad.
I am no fan of Dick Cheney, but I have not been able to find information on this alleged issue from a legitimate source. I went to the DAV web site and there is no mention of it. It does that that John McCain will speak and that Barack Obama WILL NOT be attending.
Your rant will carry more weight if you can cite a more objective source rather than just liberal blogs.
Dear The Fallen; haven’t you figured it out yet? The web allows the left to “speak” without the right “answering”. After all if it’s on the web (like talk radio) it must be true. Right?
Dear mssc54,
I thought politipornster was above citing far left blogs as news sources. He also attempts to imply that VP Cheney does not support disabled veterans which is completely ludicrous.
I didn’t know the NYDailyNews was a “far left” blog. Drudgereport links to daily, and in fact that’s where I picked up the story.
Now I hope we can agree that UPI is credible:

Here is the statement from the DAV.org website regarding the attendance of McCain and Obama:
Republican presidential candidate Senator John McCain (R-AZ) is tentatively scheduled to address the delegates at DAV’s 87th National Convention on Saturday, Aug. 9. (Note that McCain’s attendance is TENTATIVE).
Senator Barack Obama (D-IL), the Democratic presidential candidate, will be unable to attend the convention because he is travelling out of the country. He will provide a taped message to delegates however.
…as far as Obama is concerned, I think that only providing a taped message is a huge mistake. We’ll see what comes of it.
Finally, I sorry if I merely implied that Cheney doesn’t support the veterans. My intent was show yet again how Cheney doesn’t support the veterans. In my opinion, Cheney sees veterans as evidence of his own cowardly ways.
Dear College Lawyer Boy; Senator O’Bama is just out of the country speaking to his constituants. You can’t blame a fellow for that!
So let’s review. He REFUSED TO VISIT THE WOUNDED while in Germany and now tapes a message for the older vets. I’m beginning to see a pattern.
But hey that’s just my casual observation.
UPI is another liberal source, but more credible than the blogs. If it is not on FOXNEWS it is not real news!
Cheney was a great Secretary of Defense and has always been supportive of veterans and active duty military. It sounds like his security requirements are always “requested” when he speaks no matter who the group is. It is not very sensistive to DAV’s , but it is not inconsistent with his general security protocol.
Barack Obama’s treatment of veterans and the military in general is consistent with the Democrat party. Obvious disdain, but yet he “supports our brave men and women”….
@The Fallen – you write that Obama’s “treatment of veterans and the military in general is consistent with the Democrat party”
So I guess that’s why he VOTED for the New GI Bill (drafted and introduced by a Dem, no less), like nearly every Democrat, whilst John McCain skipped out on the vote and offered a pultry alternative. To make it even more laughable, McCain goes our trying to take credit for the Webb Bill.
Whatever happened to the McCain everyone respected and admired? I know that at his core, he’s the same McCain but he really needs to shake off the Bushites that are controlling his campaign.
You KNOW the Democrats are soft on defense, but big on entitlements. Typically, they raise taxes to fund such entitlements wherein I disagree with the Dems. I disagree with McCain’s position on the New GI Bill, but agree with his stance on the war in Iraq. Obama follows the Dem party mantra of “cut and run” which as you know, would leave Iraq in chaos.
Me and my fellow American Legion members will be voting for McCain, the true friend of veterans and the military.
“If it is not on FOXNEWS it is not real news!”
Please be joking.
