John Edwards, pictured with the wedding ring he doesn’t respect.
Friends, PolitiPornsters, there truly are Two Americas. There’s the one America where John Edwards is the champion of the poor, the irrepressible mouthpiece calling and warning us that class warfare in our country is prevalent despite the media’s ignorance of it. Then there is another American, the one where John Edwards is an AssHat! One of these Americas is based on perception, whilst the other is based in reality. Nope, you haven’t entered the Twilight Zone, you’ve entered the AssHat Zone.
In the AssHat Zone, one can repeatedly deny having an affair. You can hide-out in a public bathroom at 3:00AM. BTW, John Edwards can’t answer that 3:00AM phone call at the White House, he’s locked himself in the bathroom.
In the AssHat Zone, a man will cheat on wife who is universally admired for her grace, courage and intelligence. Were it not for the cancer, I’m certain that Elizabeth Edwards would be on a potential list of VP’s for Obama. Imagine that ticket…Obama and E. Edwards. That would truly be something to contend with. But, I digress, we have AssHat business to perform.
Now, we here in North Carolina are dealing with a double dose of Two Americas or perhaps Bizarro America. Only in Bizarro America would a man find it necessary to step-out on a woman like Elizabeth Edwards. Equally unsettling, is that in Bizarro America…freakin’ Clay Aiken fathers a child (Albeit by artificial insemination)! I’d think that Clay Aiken doing it naturally with a women would somehow count as “artificial” if you get my drift. Again I digress but please blame the “Clay Aiken” digression on my friend Varmint.
In closing, John Edwards you are an AssHat! You’ve made the National Enquirer look respectable! Despite the AssHat, you have a chance to redeem yourself. Take responsibility for the kid. Oh, and please, please, please go away! Maybe you Larry Craig, David Vitter and Mark Foley could form a support group. Perhaps you could call it “Lying AssHats of America – An Organization of Hope for AssHats.”

Great choice! I could not agree more! I cannot believe that he thinks he can get away with not admiting to the child being his as well. I wonder how much money he paid Rielle to refuse the paternity test!
The person he shares this asshat award with is RIELLE HUNTER. I am so INCENSED with this woman, I can hardly stand it.
How DARE YOU, Ms. Hunter, refuse the paternity test. A child has two parents and the RIGHT to have access to both parents. Maybe John Edwards isn’t the father, maybe he is…but SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE is the father of your child.
How could she put her child in this position in the first place?! She knew John Edwards – or whoever the ‘father’ is – was married. (I have faith that whoever the father is, he is married) John Edwards has plenty of blame for putting a child in this position too…if this child is NOT his, he was just as likely to create a child out of wedlock.
Shame on both of these people!
And, by the way, I am SICK and TIRED of people telling me how to live my life – like they have an air of moral superiority – who turn out to be flat out liars and hypocrites.
Larry Craig, Ted Haggard, and Eliot Spitzer I am looking at YOU.
Hayden, she refused the paternity test because John Edwards paid her off. I’m sure he will be paying her plenty over the next 18 years.
You forgot to add Bill Clinton to your list!
Well, then she sold her child to the highest bidder. An absolute shame.
Well, Bill Clinton wasn’t really known for ‘moral marketing’ which is why I didn’t include him.
I sincerely doubt the child really is his. If Edwards HAD paid her off, it would only be a matter of time before someone found out.
But, yes, Edwards is an AssHat.
Why do you care so much about politician’s private lives? Honestly, do you really think that a spouse who cheats on his wife cannot be an effective politician? Really? I don’t think it’s right but realistically, considering the number of people having extra-marital affairs, it would put a whole lot of people in AssHat world.
I’m not looking for a priest here. I am looking for someone with knowledge and cunning.
The Constitution has been used as a doormat for the last 7 years. WHY are we even talking about Edwards ‘penis? It’s ridiculous. It’s tabloid politics. It is putting all of us at gutter level.
I meant politicians’ private lives!
@Lindsey – nice to see you here. Welcome back!
@nathalie – I honestly don’t give a crap about politician’s private lives. I’m also with you on the fact that because a dude cheats on his wife, doesn’t necessarily translate to him being a bad president or candidate. The article doesn’t condemn Edwards as a bad politician or presidential hopeful.
However, he was named AssHat of the week for cheating on his wife. Yes, private life, but sorry it is very much in the public domain.
Given circumstances etc., etc., yes dear Nathalie, anyone who cheats, in love or backgammon, is a freakin’ AssHat.
Oooh a Backgammon freak! Awesome! I play for blood.
@nathelie – we care about what politicians do in their private lives because we have to judge them by the content of their character. He has just shown what type of person he is. He’d cheat on his wife and then would deny it to save face. Public servants must be held to a high standard. We the people must do so – if not we cheat ourselves.
@hammer – Why is that so damn important to you? Look whom you’ve elected!!! You the people have your priorities all wrong but I’m truly happy that a faithful Bush made such a better society for you.
I believe Nixon was faithful too. So was Carter (whom I love dearly as a person but would not put in office again)
Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Clinton, Garfield, FDR, perhaps Eisenhower: all unfaithful guys!
I’m sorry but I’d rather elect an unfaithful spouse who has the wits to fix the health care situation than a faithful one who runs the country to its knees. Obviously, we have very different views when it comes to politics.
The tabloid mentality in this country is rampant. Everybody knows Edwards cheated on his wife but rare are the people who can give me accurate details about the program of any of the candidates. It’s beyond retarded.
@nathalie – Wow – I make one comment about how I feel (and how I believe we as a country should feel) holding our elected officals to a high standard and you freak out. Interesting. Interesting too how you assume whom I’ve elected. You know nothing about me, my politics, and whom i’ve elected or support.
@hammer, I assumed that when you referred to We the People, you included yourself. As far as I know, and please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, we the people elected George Bush.
