Please don’t think me facetious or cynical when I write that the 2008 Presidential election is over. Put this one in the books. The writing is on the wall. The fat lady has sung. Stick a fork in the Democratic ticket. All this just in time for the Fall TV Line-up and the NFL season to divert my attention!
I know that it’ll be hard to say, but I ask that my liberal brethren take the next couple of months to practice saying President John McCain and Vice President Sarah Palin. On January 20, 2009 it’ll be John Sidney McCain putting one hand on the Bible and raising his other hand, robot fashion mind you, to take the oath of President. Yep, John S. McCain, 44th President of United States. Hold on a second while I barf. Arghhh! OK, I’ve got it back to together.
Seriously though, I must applaud the GOP. Job well done boys. You guys really pulled this one out of your ass and brainless idiots that elected the current dipshit in ‘02 & ‘04 came running back. It is amazing and a thing of beauty. Now, I’m a pretty young guy but I’m pretty confidant in saying that I doubt that I’ll ever see a Democrat elected President in my lifetime. And that’s assuming the Democratic Party will survive until the day I die.
The GOP has played their constituents, the media and the rest of us like a well tuned bassoon. (I hate fiddles). They reached into the wilds of Alaska and present their starving base with a pro-life, anti-evolution, ANWR drilling, moose hunting mother of five. Dude, you can’t make this shit up. Now, I had heard of Palin. Actually credit for that goes to Rush Limbaugh who’s been calling for her nomination for some time. I haven’t listened to Rush since the selection but I’m sure he’s in La-La Land and it’s not even Oxycontin induced!
Go forward, it just won’t matter. Obama could announce the only surfire plan for world peace and nobodies going to listen. McCain could slip up in the debate and tell us all that he plans on reinstituting the draft and invading Russia on day one of his presidency, but nobody is going listen. Why you ask? I really don’t know. It could be that the GOP finally found the divisive force for the ticket they needed. Who knows.
The GOP has finally gotten their base excited, just like they did in 2000 & 2004. The best the DNCcan come up with is that Obama will attract more young voters to the polls. Well, if memory serves, John Kerry was a big hit on college campuses. Alot of good that did him.
Anybody know a good Canadian immigration attorney?

“The GOP has finally gotten their base excited, just like they did in 2000 & 2004.”
No kidding. Up until the VP nomination I had only seen ONE McCain sign or bumper sticker. (That’s not even an exaggeration.) The day after Sarah Palin was announced, those suckers sprouted up EVERYWHERE.
I’m not quite so cynical.
Of course, I’m young.
Ah to be young again
I noticed just the other day that my next door neighbor has a McCain yard sign in his garage. I’m guessing he’s waiting for the McCain/Palin version to come out before he commits to actually putting holes in his glorious lawn.
Lemmings, freaking lemmings!
Buddy this was going to happen and will continue to happen. You nominated a cummunity organizer, with no experience (and deep, deep down you libs know that is true), talking about dreams and change(change straight out of the communist manifesto), always yapping Bush this Bush that. Well guess what “snapper head” the majority of American people want a county that doesn’t embrace from each according to their ability to each according to their need. We want a county who’s government functions in a limited role. It must kill you that we think outside of what we are told (yeah I just said that you all are one big collective)and actually think on our own two feet – or better yet we actually read the constitution that we carry in our back pocket. You see our country has not succeeded by government control but by individual spirit. You talk about divisive force – it is you who divides. The Palin nomination didn’t divide us – it has united poeple who believe in our county. In our way of life. Proud of what we are, what we have done, and where we are going. You see, you libs are not and can not be proud of this nation. I wish you all would just admit that. You hate our society. We don’t live in your ideal fantasy land where everyone loves one another, and we all crap and can whipe our ass with one square of toilet paper, live in grass huts, dont drive cars, dont have to buy our own food or healthcare. You see, WE have yet to give in to the idea of the collective good. We are not the borg. We dont believe we all deserve health care, and great jobs and this that and the other provided to us by our government. NO, we believe, we can have this that and the other by our own merit and hard work granted by the freedom and liberty promised us in the constitution.
@Jack – Rush Limbaugh just called, he’d like his talking points back.
You may not be Borg, but you are apparently a DittoHead.
Obama lost the election when he picked Joe Biden as his running mate. CHANGE.. puhlease! You do not espouse you are the candidate of change and then pick an entrenched liberal Democrat that has been in the Senate since Politipornster was a strapping young lad (hint: that was a LONG time ago!) Clearly Obama planned to run the country as his leftwing nutjobs dictated to him.
Politipornster, your rationale is misplaced. The GOP does not have to hoodwink the populace every 4 years as most of the country does not agree with the leftwing minority that runs your party. I will give you a couple of secrets to help you in 2012…1) Do not preach higher taxes…PERIOD. The populace figured out long ago that you cannot tax one group without taxing EVERYONE! 2) Do not preach CHANGE and select an entrenched liberal white guy as your running mate, and 3) Distance yourselfs from George Soros and Moveon.org, most of the country hate both.
I pray you are correct that McCain/Palin win in November as I pay enough taxes already!
BTW, Zogby has the McCain/Palin ticket leading Obama/Biden 49.7% to 45.8%. I predict it will grow once Palin hands Joe B his butt in a debate.
Dear College Boy Lawyer Type;
That’s might white of you to admit defeat in the face of… well defeat.
I dont’ the the thirty month experienced Senator helped his cause on Sunday while being interviewed by Stephanapolis Obama referred to his “Muslim relition”. OOPS!
I’m a Christian and can’t recall ever making the mistake of calling my religion “Jewish” or “Muslim”. I’m pretty sure which God I worship.
Don’t you think that is kind of an important to remember?
@MSSC54 – You should never question a person’s religion, point blank. You’ve professed to being a Christian and I would never begrudge you that, but for all I know you could be pedophile that secretly worships at an altar devoted to Antan LeVey. Questioning a person’s religion has no place in polite society nor in politics. Please see Article VI, section 3 of your country’s Constitution for further guidance on this matter.
Althought you didn’t say anything about this subjection I’d like to add that I find it equally distasteful to question a person’s patriotism. I know that this has become the fashion of the past 8 years but to seriously suggest that someone doesn’t love their country because they disagree with you is low class.
This demonization of political opponents simply must end. It does nothing advance the debate. It merely acts a tool by which to polarize this country. Just because I’m a Democrat doesn’t mean I’m not a Christian. Just becuase I’m a Democrat doe not mean that I love my country any less than you do.
I was truly happy and inspired to see Pastor Rick Warren begin the Saddleback Church meeting with McCain and Obama by saying that we can disagree without “demonizing” the other side. That is called “civility” in case you were wondering.
@TheFallen – I don’t think that Sarah Palin will hand Biden his ass in a debate. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve watched her debates during the Alaskan Governor’s Race on youtube and she’s a skilled debating to be sure. However, Biden is equally strong in this arena. It’ll be a wash. Palin just needs to be herself, she is already a superstar. Biden will likely be playing defense and lay low on any attacks. We all remember what happened to Rick Lazio when he went on the attack in his debate with Hillary.
Truth be told, the debates won’t matter. To steal a line from a Stevie Wonder song used at the DNC’s convention, this election is “Signed, Sealed & Delivered” for McCain/Palin.
In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if the McCain/Palin ticket gets 53-55% of the popular vote. In my nearly astute opinion the presidential race is over AND I would not be surprised at all if the excitement trickles down the ticket to the House/Senate and Gubenatorial races as well. This will all add up to being a very bad year for Democrats in general.
One upside to this year’s election is that I do not believe that we’ll be staying up well into the night have a winner named.
I don’t think that mssc54 is questioning Obama’s choice of religion, he seems to be questioning as to which religion he professes his faith to given Obama’s alleged inconsistant statement. I think that is a legitimate question given the proclivity of Democrats to “pander” to their audience.
I am shocked you are picking McCain/Palin to win already given there is still time for the Republicans to screw up. : ) I just don’t want this to turn into Obama holding up a newspaper the day after the election where he wins and the headline says MCCAIN DEFEATS OBAMA (i.e. Dewey Defeats Truman from 1948).
This just in! Barack Obama, in order to obviate any confusion as to whether he is Christian or Muslim, has hired this band to travel with him for the rest of the campaign. It ain’t over yet!!
@TheFallen – Actually, I read MSSC54 comment to be more of this “Obama’s a Secret Muslim” narrative that RightWing NutJobs like to push.
That aside, I still stand by my contention that you shouldn’t question anyone’s assertion of faith. Obama has said on numerous occassions that he is a Christian. I believe him.
Obama’s “inconsistent statement” was a mere slip of the tongue.
In fact, I’m certain that I could find conservative Christians that would tell you that Sarah Palin is not a “true” Christian because of her denomination of choice, prior to seeking the Governor post, which practices speaking in tongues. Me, I go by what the woman says. She’s a Christian and I have no evidence contradicts that. Besides, who am I to sit in judgment?
I don’t think the GOP can screw this up. They made a stellar choice in their VP and it’s injected a great deal of excitement on their side of the aisle. They’ve done very well at knocking down every thing that has come her way. I heard someone say as a joke that “it could be discovered that the Sarah Palin is a cannibal and the GOP would respond that it is private matter.”
I think its right to question ANY public servant’s religiosity, just not criticize the denomination they choose. For example, if Jim Bakker ran for President as a Christian you would not question him as he asked for donations???
Did you view that video link I sent? I laughed out loud when I viewed it. It was on my pastor’s blog!
Obama had lost with his Pastor (end of story)
Democrats are never organized and screw up their own elections. This election should have had Democrats winning everything including the house and senate.
BTW – why didn’t Obama wait on VP till McCain choose? Hillary might not have been a bad choice IMO.
Dear College Boy Lawyer Type;
If you call me a pedofile again I will have to secure your services to sue yourself.
I was not questioning Senator Obama’s choice of religion.
I was merely stating a fact. That on Sunday when he was being interviewed by Stephenopolis, Obama, himself said “my Muslim religion” but was quickly corrected by Steph when he said “you mean your Christian religion.”
I’ve never confused my religion as being anything but what I believe. I can only assume that others are the same.
@Porn
Is that the best you can do? Really? Come on…
..Look great I suppose I can say you get your points from Matthews, Moveon,Franken, Olberman… You see you just excuse us as being idiots. You are such a great example of the stereotype of NE liberal arts educated democrats. You believe we are inferior to your great wealth of knowledge and understanding.
@ All
Many appologies to all in my previous post – grammatical errors fly when I get excited.
Hey dude. Excellent! (Thanks Cordie for introducing me to PolitiPorn) I believe that porn and politics should be seperated, but hey that’s just me.
You can always join me as I build an Ark to move to Switzerland. The inner workings of Cuckoo clocks, the level of creaminess in Swiss chocolates and poking holes in cheese is the highlight of their political debate. They make John Kerry look charismatic. And I like Kerry.
Wicked comment on my blog by the way. Wrote a new letter. To John this time.
Think I will build that link and let you roll on my blog now.
Gawd I’ve been thinking this same thing myself but I MUST try and stay optimistic least I find my hand clutching my Colt .45 ready to do myself in… I just can’t fathom another 4 or 8 years under the thumb of the republican party.
I guess it’s time to up my antidepressant dosage… again.
@Jack – I wish I could’ve gone to a NE Liberal Arts school but I paid my own way so that relegated me to state school in Virginia.
As far as my comment about your plagarizing Rush’s talking points. I didn’t mean for that to be snarking, I meant it literally. OK, except for the part about Rush calling me, I wouldn’t answer that phone call and besides I’ve got enough Oxycontin of my own!
No you repeated wholesale, the same things that the Rush and the other RightWing shock jocks like to spout. You can’t miss an opportunity to demonize those folks that disagree with you.
Look libs love their country just as much as conservatives. Hell, I’ve even defended John McCain on this blog. I know that you’re new here but maybe you should get a gander of this story I wrote: http://politiporn.com/2008/01/16/scum-of-the-earth/
@AngryAfrican & Eric The Hack: Welcome, it’s nice to see some new blood here.
@MSSC54 –
You know I wasn’t really calling you a pedophile, but if you’d like to sue me I’d be more than willing to take the case. It’s going to be awkward when I’m questioning myself at trial.
Obama made a mere slip of the tongue that’s all. Now I know the “Obama is a secret Muslim” crowd will seize on this and play it for everthing that it’s worth.
As I stated in the article, this election is over. We’ll watch in January as Bush passes the baton to McCain/Palin. What will become of this country after that remains to be seen. If I were a betting man, I’d say that we’ll likely get 1-2 SC appointments in the next 4 years and the court will finally be comprised of a body jurists that are sympathetic to conservative causes. With that, in all likely hood Roe v. Wade will be headed for the crapper. So, we’ll be dealing with a more federalist approach to abortion which in reality is what I support. That way, upper middle class southern white girls can fly to an abortion state like New York or Massachusetts and have those little black or hispanic fetuses yank about before daddy finds out. I know that sounds harsh but it’s true.
One hope that I’d have is that Obama and Biden will be able to survive this election cycle with a shred of their dignity intact. Too often we have allowed well meaning folks in politics to be destroyed. Although he’ll never be president, I still believe that Obama has something to contribute to this country. Now let the nasty comments follow!
“Put lipstick on a pig its still a pig” – maybe there is some fight in Obama to win this.
@Ralph – yeah that one is getting blown way out of proportion. I serously doubt that Obama would be dumb enough to direct that at Palin.
However, the statement is true in that, we can expect more of the same from McCain as president. He’s voted with the president 90% of the time, that’s a fact that McCain admits to. He’s also changed his position in the few areas where he and Bush disagreed i.e. the Bush Tax Cuts.
Now, I might not agree with his lock-step approach with the Bush administration but it appears that the people want to continue with someone in the WhiteHouse that agrees with Bush. We live in a democracy and the majority rules. So be it.
If you really listen to McCain, he is calling for change, but none of that change is coming to the WhiteHouse. Instead, McCain has aimed his message of change at the Congress. Thus, one can’t dispute McCain’s message of change.
In the first 100 days of his presidency, McCain has said that he & Governor Palin will look at the federal government and eliminate any departments or programs that don’t work. It will be very interesting see which ones get the boot. I for one would love to see the Department of Education get the boot. What a colossal waste of cash! They would be on the top of my list. Leave behind NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND and scrap that whole shit pile. Let the individual states come up with their education policy. That way if South Carolina wants to teach science from the Book of Genesis then so be it.
Where policy appears likely to remain the same is in the approach of the Executive branch on matters of foreign policy, the War on Terrorism and energy policy. In my opinion, McCain is going to be more aggressive with situations like Iran and the Pakistan-Afghan border. He’s also more likely to be far more aggressive with the Russians in regard to Georgia.
Someone in Obama’s camp (I’m not sure if it was Obama) DID say “put lipstick on a pitbull, it’s still a pitbull”- but that was in response’s to Palin’s self-characterization of being a pitbull in lipstick and heels.
If she can’t play with the boys without getting hurt feelings, she shouldn’t play with the boys. (Which of course she said about Hillary, but that’s because it was Hillary and Palin wants different rules for herself. *sigh*)
My favorite comment, and it is self congratulatory because I came up with it, is this “You can’t put lipstick on George W. Bush, put him in a dress and call that CHANGE!”
OMFG that’s great!
