Recent reports show that President-Elect Obama hasn’t attended a
church service since the election. This news, showing that he goes to
the gym and then stays home on Sundays, has small pockets of people
concerned.
What, exactly, can be read into this sudden dearth of pew-sitting?
Has Obama turned his back on religion? Were his twelve years of
consistent attendance only posing? Now that he’s “achieved” his goal
of the presidency, does he no longer feel the need to attend?
People point to President W and President HornDog, saying that the two
of them attended services post-election. Of course, what this ignores
is that President W has had sporadic attendance throughout his
Presidency, never even formally joining a congregation in DC. And
while the Clintons found a congregation in DC, one can argue that the
church attendance didn’t really have the desired affect.
So what about Obama?
Perhaps his lack of attendance isn’t indicative of a lack of faith,
but instead simply a sign that he, his security detail, and especially
his family are choosing to lay low for the time being. Perhaps his
church doesn’t like the bother of security screenings, secret service
in the rafters, and the threat of danger.
Time will tell.

After he quit that one church, did he ever find another one? Looking for a church is a pain in the behind…I’m still looking for one up here!
I’m glad he gave up church! He has more important work to do ahead of him. Good for him to get his priorties straight. Stronger the body, stronger the mind!
Perhaps President elect Obama is trying to be more like the masses.
He will probably attend church on Easter Sunday and on Christmas.
