Congratulations South Africa, you have finally created a news story that doesn’t mention the fact that you lead the world in rapes per capita (second place in murders) or had a health minister that recommended a diet of garlic and beetroot to cure AIDS, by denying the Dalai Lama a visa to attend an international peace conference (well what was going to be an international peace conference, they decided not to have it without the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu who announced that he would boycott.)
I guess the AIDS thing isn’t that important because damn near 80% of the adult population and a whopping 69% of pregnant women don’t have AIDS.
I can’t imagine what would prompt South Africa to deny the Dalai Lama a visa. The official reason was that it would shift the focus away from the 2010 World Cup being held there and “that it wasn’t in South Africa’s best interest.” It couldn’t have anything to do with China being their biggest trade partner… wait maybe it’s because the Dalai Lama hasn’t ever raped anyone.
Oh, and by the by what in the samfuck does the South African government know about the best interests of South Africa. Have you ever heard of the term “corrective rape?” Well then you haven’t been to South Africa lately. It’s actually not as therapeutic as it sounds. It’s when South Africa men rape a woman in order to restore her heterosexuality. They rape the gay out of them. One gay rights organization in South Africa has reported up to ten cases of “corrective rape” a week in Cape Town alone.
According to the Guardian, in April, 2008 the body of soccer star Eudy Simelane was found in a creek on the outskirts of Johannesburg. She had been gang-raped and beaten, then stabbed 25 times. Aside from her career as an athlete she was known as an advocate of equal rights and one of the first openly lesbian women of her town. Since the government of South Africa doesn’t seem to give a shit at least someone might notice one less jersey on the soccer field. This about a month after the Guardian did a piece about children playing a game called ‘rape me’ at school.
I wouldn’t worry too much about it though. The Government is taking this whole issue very seriously. Consider what Safety and Security Minister Charles Nqakula said about Parliamentarians who weren’t all that happy with the crime rate in South Africa…
“They can continue to whine until they are blue in the face, they can continue to be as negative as they want to, or they can simply leave this country” (Here)
Someone got his feelings hurt.
I haven’t heard what the Jacob Zuma, President of the African National Congress, has to say about the Dalai Lama issue, but one is clear, he was acquitted in his rape trial. Just like more than 90% of South Africans who are charged with rape. Just to make sure everyone knew how innocent he was his supporters began throwing rocks at a woman outside of the court house that they mistook for his accuser. While admitting to having sex with the woman, known to be HIV positive at the time, he revealed that he didn’t wear a condom, but took a shower afterwards to protect himself from contracting the disease. Just to add stupid to atrocity the self proclaimed polygamist was the head of the National AIDS Council at the time.
What a fucked up country, someone go tell Kanye West that we found some more guys who don’t care about black people.

“The official reason was that it would shift the focus away from the 2010 World Cup”
Er.
Isn’t that a soccer game?
…
Am I missing something?
No, the South African government is missing something.
“We in the South African government have not invited the Dalai Lama to visit South Africa, because it would not be in the interests of South Africa,” he said. “The attention of the world is on South Africa because of it being the host country for the 2010 World Cup, and we wouldn’t want anything to distract from that.”
